For our April meeting we were fortunate enough to have two guest speakers come and join us for what was an informative and lively evening!
London Garden Squares
Robin from the London Parks and Gardens Trust (LPGT) came to speak to us about their work and the London Open Garden Squares Weekend (OGSW). This event was established in 1998 and LPGT work to protect and promote London’s green open spaces. The OGSW is run almost entirely by volunteers. Any surplus made from the event is divided equally between the participating eligible gardens and the LGPT. The event itself takes place on the weekend of the 8th of June and one ticket can give you access to over 200 gardens and are available here: www.opensquares.org . It’s a fantastic way to spend the weekend and a opportunity to discover some of our cities hidden gems. Hopefully the sunny weather will arrive in time!
From Paycheck to Prada
We were very lucky to have Iona Minton, a renowned TV and Radio personality from South Africa come and speak to us at our April meeting. Iona is a Financial Education Consultant and Financial journalist and came to give us some insight into the current level of personal debt in the UK (which was rather frightening) and how we as individuals can manage our money better. Iona focuses particularly on debt management and how we can separate the things that we actually need from the things that we think we need. Iona demonstrated the reasons why the vast majority of the population struggle from pay cheque to pay cheque and then explained the tools that can help to change this. Iona is a fantastic public speaker and gave us all food for thought…step away from designer shoes ladies!!!
