Monday 30th June, Denman, Oxfordshire – Attendance is FREE
One in six people in Britain suffer from some form of hearing loss. Hearing is a fundamental pleasure in life and one of the most sensitive and neglected ‘senses’. This educational day, hosted by TV doctor, Dr. Hilary Jones, and Hidden Hearing, the UK’s leading experts in hearing, will uncover some of the threats to our hearing and explain some of the ways to preserve this most delicate of senses and also recover from hearing loss.
PLUS – a surprise performance from a deaf choir!
WI Enterprises Ltd is working with Hidden Hearing to create a compelling event to educate about the importance of good hearing. An estimated 4 million people in the UK have some form of impaired hearing, yet haven’t done anything about it. Research shows that hearing loss is affecting people from a younger age and is also on the rise as the population ages. Hearing loss is commonly caused by damage to the sensitive hair cells inside the cochlea.
As a result, simple things like listening to the radio and participating in conversations with friends and family can become a struggle, and in extreme cases this causes social isolation and loneliness. This day aims to educate on the importance of good hearing health and how to ensure our hearing lasts a lifetime.
Speakers include:
– Dr. Hilary Jones, health and medical advisor on ITV’s morning show Daybreak and resident health expert on Steve Wright’s BBC Radio 2 show
– Dr. Paul Whittaker OBE, choir master and music graduate from Oxford University who has been deaf all his life. He plays the piano and organ and has also trained choirs. He founded Music and the Deaf in 1988, a charity to help deaf people access and enjoy music.
– Leading audiologist, Hugh Crawford
