August meeting – Monday, 7 August 2014

Last month we were very lucky to have Michael Perry, the Planthunter, a new breed of gardener as our speaker. In case you are interested in finding out more about him, please click here.

I’d like to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you once again to everyone who baked and helped run the stall at Parson’s Green Fair, our single biggest annual fundraiser.   We made £215, of which £55 was for the Rocky Road for our Tweak a Twenty initiative.

We look forward to seeing you at our next meeting on Monday, 4 August at 7.30pm at The Hollywood Arms for our Summer Social.  This is a chance for any friends who are interested or intrigued by the WI to come along and learn more about us.  Also, as discussed at our last meeting, if you have any clothes/books/bric a brac that you no longer want yourself, but would like to share with your friends then please bring them along.  All items will be offered to your fellow FCWI members for a minimum of £1 (it’s up to you to decide).  For all items sold, a donation of £1 will be given to FCWI.   Please bear in mind that any items which do not find a new home must return home with you, they cannot be left at the pub.

Thanks also to everyone who has offered to bake for the next Silver Club meeting on Tuesday, 5 August.  Please remember to drop cakes off at the bar on your way up to the meeting on Monday.

This meeting will also be a last chance to buy WI Raffle tickets, which are only £1. The first prize is £5,000 and there also 5 runner up prizes and 2 additional prizes.  The raffle will be drawn on 19 September so good luck to everyone who has already bought tickets/are planning to buy tickets.

We will be placing a one off order for  WI diaries for 2015, which are going to be gold in celebration of our centenary.  They cost £3.70 each. If you would like a diary then please bring money along to the August meeting to secure your order.

Just to remind that there is NO Book Club taking place in August. The next meeting will be taking place on Wednesday, 3 September at 7.30pm, where we will be discussing The Masters by C.P Snow. Please let us know if you will be attending so that we can book a table in The Hollywood Arms.

To keep updated with everything happening at FCWI check out the website which provides a good update, including about all of our events. If you have any queries about any events then feel free to speak to Selina Butterfield, our Events Officer, at the meeting.
