If you are in the mood to get baking, the next meeting of the Silver Club takes place this Tuesday, 1 April during the day at our ‘home’ – The Hollywood Arms, 45 Hollywood Road, Chelsea, London, SW10 9HX. Having helped to set up this monthly meeting for elderly local residents, we try and support it when we can by providing home baked cakes. Any contributions are gratefully received, so if you are unable to help this month, then please bear this in mind for the future (they meet on the first Tuesday of the month).
Also on the Tuesday is our next Book Club meeting. Back by popular demand, this meeting takes place at 7.30pm, where we will be discussing “Stoner” by John Williams.
Our April meeting is on Monday, 7 April. As usual, it will be taking place at The Hollywood Arms at 7.30pm in The Blanchard Room (room upstairs). We are very excited to announce our speaker is: |
“Odyssey of Hope – 20 Years of Women’s Ministry in the Church of England”
Reverend Virginia (Ginny) Thomas, Vicar of St.Mary The Boltons, London SW10
Ginny has been priest-in-charge and currently Vicar of St.Mary’s for nearly 10 years. She was ordained Deacon in St.Paul’s Cathedral in 2000, and served her Curacy at St.Luke’s and Christ Church, Chelsea. Prior to ordination Ginny studied Theology at the Yale Divinity School, earning a Masters Degree in Divinity. She also trained in London and served in churches in different parts of the city. She is trained in spiritual direction, and was responsible for Post-Ordination Training in the Kensington Diocese. She has spent over 20 years living abroad in Germany, Belgium and the United States, where she was Chair of an environmental group and the Norwalk Youth Symphony Orchestra. Ginny is married with two adult children.
The Church of England decided that women could become priests almost 20 years ago. However the question of women bishops has remained a contentious issue for the church. Ginny will be speaking to us about the position of women in the Church of England in the context of her own ministry and her experiences during this period.
