March Speaker – we are very excited to announce that our speaker is Christine Brewster (Basketmaker). Christine will talk will be about various different ways to make baskets and about materials she uses (both natural and unnatural) to make baskets. Samples will be available to demonstrate the vast range of techniques and styles made from locally grown willow and locally produced recycled rubbish. Christine is a Yeoman member of the Worshipful Company of Basketmakers, and has been making baskets for over twenty years. She is passionate about producing beautiful functional artifacts from basic raw materials.

Events – we’ve got a lot planned for the next few months, so a separate events mailer will be sent out shortly telling you about these. - the next Theatre Club outing is on Tuesday, 8 April and we’ve reserved tickets for Once (Phoenix Theatre, Charring Cross Road, London, WC2H 0JP). If you want to come along, please remember to bring money with you to secure your ticket – £39.50 (instead of the usual £69) for top price tickets.
- Book Club will be meeting on Tuesday, 11 March in the pub at 7.30pm to discuss Gentlemen Prefer Blondes by Anita Loos. Please let us know if you will be joining us so that we can reserve a table.
- and, thanks to everyone who came along to our new Cinema Club last month, !2 Years a Slave is a must see film. The next outing is onTuesday, 13 May.
Subs… if you have not paid membership for this year then please bring cash/cheques to Monday’s meeting – we need to pay our share of membership fees to Surrey Fed and NFWI in mid-March. Just to remind you that subs for 2014 are £34.70 and membership entitles you to monthly meetings, eight copies a year of the WI membership magazine, WI Life and regular newsletters and mailings to keep you up-to-date with all the news and events fromSurrey Fed and the NFWI.
As discussed at last month’s meeting, we will be implementing a charging structure to be in-line with other WI’s from our March meeting. Potential members can come along to their first meeting on a complimentary basis. Thereafter, attendance at meetings is subject to a visitor’s fee of £5.00 forpotential members and those who have not paid subs.
